So as any cool 20-somethings would do on a Friday night, Erin and I (mostly Erin) decided to load up the family and head to Target. One of the things on our list to get was a Halloween costume for Kelson's first Halloween adventure even though at his age about the only thing that would make Trick or Treating worthwhile would be if all of the neighbors were handing out bottles of milk. Apparently it was essential to procure the perfect Halloween costume now since surely by the time we get to even the same month as the holiday itself, all the good options will be gone.
On a side note: I would like to point out that since i have now have a kid, that officially relieves me of all duties related to putting on a stupid costume or dressing up in anyway for Halloween...but i digress.
So as i was busy checking out the new barbeque grills on the next aisle, Erin came over with the two choices she found for Kelson's costume. Option number one was a monkey and option number two was hotdog. Now i know you are thinking the obvious choice would be for him to be the hotdog and for mom and dad to dress up in their beer can costumes (Yes, we both have beer can costumes and yes that would violate the no dressing up once you have kids clause in my contract, but thats a whole different story). What could be more perfect than a hotdog and beer family Halloween outing? However after some deliberation, it was determined that perhaps the monkey costume would be more appropriate for the little man's first Halloween. In the end we got the monkey suit and decided to save the hotdog and beer idea for later on in life when perhaps it would be more appreciated.
This is just one of the crucial decisions we have faced to this point as new parents.

Doug - These events become an annual thing so making curcial decisions is always a problem but doesn't always get easier with time. Fortunately, they always end up leaving great memories which an old man can appreciate. My love to the three of you.
